JESUS Christ said in John 17:8 New International Version "For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me.".
JESUS Christ had told the Heavenly Father in the previous Sermon in John 17:7 "Now [at last] they know [with confident assurance] that all You have given Me is from You [it is really and truly Yours]."(http://0www.20m.com/jesusjohn17:7.html).
 
So while the previous verse John 17:7 had stated "they know", this John 17:8 said "They knew with certainty" ["that" JESUS Christ "came from" the Heavenly Father ", and they believed that" the Heavenly Father "sent" JESUS Christ].
This is an instance of Distinguishing Of Spirits, as "they know" (John 17:7) might be [in the current secular sense] an axiom. "In mathematics and logic" an axiom "cannot be proved or demonstrated."
