JESUS Christ made the people aware in the previous verse as written "You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies"; so "You belong" not yet in Heaven but "here" at Your opted level in the "census" until You make "Heaven On Earth" at least a personal amount yet rather Best For All (http://0www.20m.com/jesusjohn8:44.html). JESUS Christ continued in

John 8:45 New Living Translation "So when I tell the truth, you just naturally don’t believe me!" [about having opted secular level] "Credit; by implication, to entrust" (https://biblehub.com/john/8-45.htm)!

 John 8:45 Formula "So when I tell the truth," = "you just naturally" x "don’t believe me!"!

So they have their reward already, for example "The desire to be seen by others undermines the spiritual benefits of fasting, which should be a private act of devotion to God" (https://biblehub.com/matthew/6-16.htm).

JESUS Christ's more Faithful Ones have the problem too (a JIA, see above "Definitions"), in the sense that this is the Living Bible, and many have wondered which translation to believe yet as JESUS Christ said as written in Matthew 7:20 "Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions".

For to start after full repentance and Christian Baptism is with Belief, and then next Higher Level is with Centerline Ascending from Believing to Faithfulness (previous sentence). Symbolically a Child might like to climb through a window, even though they [believe (rather for the Faithful the word "Belief" means in JESUS Christ) to opt lower level to] know a door is there but they ignore wise instructions and climb and perhaps are hurt and perhaps are scolded such as for having broking the window frame and pane.

So to believe JESUS Christ is more about starting, while Faithfulness in with Best For All to be Centerline Ascending as One Pillar Of Faithfulness Continuing to Live and Grow Up.

So the Faithful in JESUS Christ Overcome the sources of information increasingly (as Matthew 7:20 states above).

JESUS Christ Gives this awareness as written in John 4:14 Literal Emphasis Translation "However whoever might drink from out of the water that I will give him will never thirst unto the age. But rather the water that I will give to him will become in him a spring of water springing up into life eternal".
So this previous verse is in 2 stages, first about taking water, and afterward Higher Level "fasting" (as stated above) from water.
